The Climate

The summer last longer in the Bouches-du-Rhône. The sun shines almost every day from deep blue skies. If any, rain fall tends to be short but heavy, usually in the spring or autumn. Grey skies and or drizzle are rare, due to the southern location. Other factors also contribute: the Camping is situated between the Rhône Delta and the Etang de Berre. To the north are the Alps of Luberon and to the south the Mediterranean. All these factors prevent weather depressions reaching us, but can cause the odd very windy day.

The Mistral, the infamous and well known wind, as we experience here, always blows from the north. It is loved and feared at the same time, but no matter how strong it can be, it always ensures that the air is clean and the skies are blue. We hide for it in spring and autumn, but in summer is brings welcome relief from the heat. The Mistral belongs to the Provence like water to the sea. History shows how people tried to protect themselves from this ally: trees are planted in straight lines, bamboo hedges and the old houses in the area are all build with the back facing north. The same applies to the Camping: if you are looking for shelter you just choose a pitch behind a bamboo hedge.
