| There are ample opportunities for those who enjoy swimming, the swimming-pool at the Camping, the Etang next door and the Mediterranean with its many beaches in a 25 mile radius. Surfing, sailing and fishing can be practised at the Etang next to the Camping, with easy access through the side entrance. It advisable to check the whether forecast before going out on the water. A sudden arrival of the Mistral can change the surface of the lake from mirror smooth to heavy seas. We advise you to bring any water-sports equipment you own because rental facilities around the lake are still limited. |

There are a number of beaches on the Mediterranean coast where you can hire
paddle-bikes and surfboards. You'll also find some diving and sailing schools
around the lake and at the coast. It is possible to book boat and sea-fishing
trips from Martigues to the Camargue and the Calanques, the beautiful rocky
coast line around Marseille. |
| The region
is relative flat, so cycling is another option. We strongly recommend a
cycling tour through the Camargue, cross the "Grand Rhône" on a small ferry,
onto the dike and enjoy the beautiful scenery in all its glory, so easy
missed when travelling by car. The distance from the Camping to the Rhône
is about 20 miles, so for the inexperienced cyclist we recommend to use
a bike rack on the car for transport to the start of the tour. Some villages
along the coast have bike rental facilities. The area is very popular for
riding on horseback and nearby, from Istres to the Camargue are opportunities
to ride, with or without supervision. And the sky is the limit for the hiking enthusiasts. Whether it is on the hills surrounding the Camping, through the woods to Martigues, up the hill to St. Mitre or just wandering around and enjoy the scenery. |
